Master Leather Craftsmen willing to RESTORE old, leather TOY HOLSTERS are so few and far between that we have been placed on The Endangered Species List!

However, at JCoatney Leather, bringing old holsters "Back to Life" continues to be an enjoyable task. The challenge to revive some of the appeal of these old toys that provided us so much fun as kids -- & so many fond memories as "Boomers," is the specialty service JCoatney Leather can provide for you old "Cowboys & Cowgals!"

These are "Before" (left) and "After" (right) photos of a Small Roy Rogers set.
This Roy Set required several "replacement parts" – some of which were gleaned from inventory of really old leather (but carefully preserved and cared for), and some "parts" were new leather conditioned to look old.

How's this for a magnificent Dale Evans double holster restoration?

JCoatney Leather was established by John Henry Coatney in the hills of East Tennessee in 1929. Initially, shoe repair was the primary service provided. We have a willingness to go the "extra miles" to restore and preserve your leather treasures – especially that leather "Family Heirloom," utilizing "old school" techniques of leather craftsmanship.

RESTORATION RATES

Labor and materials at $25 per hour – includes various dyes and finishes; cleaning fluids; preservants; adhesives; threads; minimal # of rivets, snaps, etc.
EVALUATION OF YOUR ITEM

Within two days of receiving your item(s), JCoatney Leather will inspect the item(s) and contact you via telephone to discuss 1) your concerns and wishes, 2) our evaluation and explanation of the options available to you.
G’daddy’s long standing policy regarding when the customer can expect his project to be completed is as follows: Well folks, it’s still first come, first served. Your project will be recorded on the Shop Calendar on the date received and work on your project will begin upon the completion of the project(s) received prior to your package.
RECOMMENDED PACKING PROCEDURES

G’daddy used to say that,“…..most folks just don’t pay any attention when it comes to tend’n to their leather.” Obviously, you can best assure maximum care for your TOY HOLSTER(s) by the way you pack them when planning to ship them and / or travel to and from a gun show, etc. Most anyone utilizin’ this particular website knows that a dyed.in.the.wool cap pistol collector will not – and will not allow their guns to be fired / “clicked” / snapped. It just may be the last ‘click’ left in that gun! Likewise, fold your little leather rig and it may very well be the fold that breaks your treasure! JCoatney Leather encourages our customers to utilize containers that – size wise – adequately protects your toys during the shipping process. JCoatney Leather can offer suggestions if needed.
SHIPPING / INSURANCE

The first thing JCoatney Leather asks you to do: Please tag your item – name, address, phone number, and date of shipping. Thanks!
Customers are responsible for all shipping and insurance charges on items both ways.
Upon purchase from JCoatney Leather of a RESTORED HOLSTER and / or a reproduction rig and / or a new item of any kind, JCoatney Leather will provide FREE shipping.
DEFINITIONS

Because G’daddy’s HOLSTER TALK from many years ago is still used here at JCoatney Leather to describe / discuss the various individual pieces of leather utilized to build a holster rig, we’re gonna write ’em down for you to ponder over before you contact us. That way, when you do contact us, both you and JCoatney Leather should better be able to understand what we both are talking about!
RIG - refers to the totally finished product, including all of the hardware.
HARDWARE - All of the various metal spots, rivets, studs, conchos utilized on a rig. (more commonly referred to by Greenhorns, as – “all those metal buttons”) *JCoatney Leather has a limited supply of original, new-old-stock hardware, and also hardware "salvaged" from throw-away rigs.
SINGLE RIG - Finished product, only one holster.
DOUBLE RIG - Finished product with two holsters.
(Gun) BELT - That part of the rig that wraps ‘round waist / hips.
BILLETS - The straps attached to each end of the belt. One end of strap secures buckle. Opposite end has holes to receive buckle tongue, and metal tip of the three piece buckle set.
SLOT HOLE - The punched / cut horizontal hole in the belt in which holster is inserted and attached to the belt.
BACKDROP & POCKET - The two pieces (of leather) that make the holster.
•   Backdrop That flat piece of the holster that lays against the (cowboys) leg. **
•   Pocket Outer, foremost piece (of the holster) constructed to secure gun. Also, the most obvious place to attach various decorations.
** Holsters built from one piece of leather and folded over obviously do not require a backdrop.
HANGER - When utilized, is that extra piece of leather used to attach holster(s) to belt.

Through the years, many of ya’ll have taught me, and shared with me your thoughts – and even some of your secrets – of the fun and enjoyment we experience tinkering ’round with these old toys. And it seems appropriate here to say, “Thanks!” to all of my “Buddies” for your friendship. Listed below are some who have indicated that should someone seek their opinion about JCoatney Leather; they may be inclined to offer a kind word.
