Kilgore

Well, Kilgore was such a prolific company and so many of you have sent in more photos and text of various Kilgore Cap Guns and products, that I just had to give them another page! Keep sending them in!

OTHER BRANDS OF CAP GUNS

Here is a (rather obscure) 1950-1955 version of the Kilgore Ranger Cap Gun. It is a die-cast repeater and I am pretty sure that the cowboy on the grip was painted by some enterprising young Buckaroo who did that for himself. The chrome looks slightly yellowish, so it is hard to tell if this is a gold version or a chrome version, as there were both. Click on photo to see a nice gold one.

Thanks to Lewis Ellman for this contribution.

Kilgore Ranger Box
Here's the box for that Kilgore Ranger.

Photos thanks to Jim LaRue.

This is the more common variety of the gun below, although in more pristine condition. This is one of the very early versions of the Ranger. Very nice!

Many thanks to Doug Hamilton!!!

Kilgore Lone Ranger Cap Guns
Aren't these beauties? These were made by Kilgore. There are a lot less Lone Ranger Cap Guns than you might imagine! Just try and find some. You probably have about 10 people who want one for every person who has one. This Cap Gun looks a little like a Smith and Wesson .44 Magnum I think, just not as hefty.

This close-up shows the rider and horse on the grip and the "HI-YO SILVER!" written there. Different gun, but you'll get the idea of how it is supposed to look up close.

Kilgore Eagle Cap Gun
A MINT version of this old Kilgore Cap Gun showing the fancy grip.

Many thanks to Michael McDade of New Jersey!
Different gun, same model, from Ken Mittelsteadt.
Thie is a die-cast revolving cylinder gun. A little unusual for Kilgore—especially the grips. It is pretty easy to read "EAGLE" on the side of the Cap Gun's frame.

It's not even possible to get a better Kilgore Eagle than this Cap Gun. It is perfect in every way. It's right "out of the box." Flawless! Simply breath-taking, considering how old it is.

Many thanks to Doug Hamilton!!!

Kilgore Kit Carson Cap Gun
Here's a Cap Gun I have not seen before. But there's a lot of those. This particular one needs a new hammer spring.

Many thanks to Dee Brown of Journey Through Time!
More fine photos of the Kit Carson Cap Gun.

The four photos just above are thanks to Doug Hamilton!

Here is just a SUPER Kit Carson kit that has never once even been out of the box (by a kid, I'm sure the owner who was selling it took it out for photos) The tag reads "Real Texan Outfit." Well, this real Texan never owned one, but I sure would have been proud to. I owned Nichols sets, of course! But isn't this one great? It says that it is a Betty Leach design (holster). And notice the $1.98 price. Well, you won't touch it for less than about 100 times that now!

This photo thanks to Kathi Lamb.
And here's some more Kit Carson Cap Guns that even came with another set of holsters. Same guns, but in really immaculate condition! Very nice!

Our sincere thanks to Bill McDonald of Vintage Toy & Racing.
Here's the long-barrel version of the Kit Carson Cap Gun. This gun also has a grip that is similar in concept to the Grizzly grip.

Thanks to George Newcomb of Plymouth Rock Toys.

Here's a photo a box for one of the upper Kit Carson Cap Guns.

Here is the 2nd model of the Big Horn Cap Gun by Kilgore.

This photo donated by Audrey McBride. Thanks!

Kilgore Big Horn Cap Gun
Well, I got some MORE nice photos of this old Cap Gun, so I am presenting them here.

Again, this is the 2nd model of the series and this one is in absolutely MINT condition.

This Cap Gun shoots disc caps and has a lanyard ring on the bottom of the grip.

All photos thanks to Doug Hamilton!

I hope that you folks will remember that you too can have your favorite Cap Guns on this website. Send the photos in, preferably in 320 x 240 resolution, and we will give you a "plug."

Kilgore Bronco
Right View This model is sort of a cross between a 38 police special and a western gun of some sort.

Kilgore made this in around 1950 (which was the year the Nichols Stallion 45 came out).

This gun is die-cast in nickel and has white grips with a saddle and boots.

Same model Kilgore Bronco, different gun - AND BOX!!!

Here's a fantastic MINT example of a Kilgore Long Tom with a sensational box.
Thanks to David Denton at: theantiquecowboy@aol.com!

Long Tom w/ Roy Rogers Signature

This is one of those Cap Guns that will set you back a LONG WAYS when you even think of trying to buy it. The famous Long Tom with the Roy Rogers signature that is engraved on the side. And the engraving is so faint that it gives you another reason to faint when you see the price.
Here, if you pay close attention, you can barely make out the engraving that was done at the factory. Really...Roy didn't sign each and every gun. He probably would have, had he known how valuable these would some day be!

Long Tom Roy Rogers

Well, you can just assume that ALL Long Toms are expensive and this example is no different. This one is a Long Tom with Roy Rogers on the grips. This particular Cap Gun is MINT. The layout for this group of panels is a little different, but I had to squeeze them in somehow!

Kilgore Bronco 2nd Model
Now if you had the opportunity to use some really fine photos of the second model of the Kilgore Bronco Cap Gun, wouldn't you take it?
I thought so.

WELL SO WOULD I.

This is the second version from Kilgore of the gun by the same name, but was from 1950 to 1955 or so.

Though it is not quite as rare as the first model, this particular one is still quite a find as it is MINT AND UNFIRED.

I hope that you folks will remember that you too can have your favorite Cap Guns on this website. Send the photos in, preferably in 320 x 240 resolution, and we will give you a "plug."

The Federal Kilgore
BE SURE TO CLICK ON THE THUMBNAILS
Well, if this isn't unusual enough, then I give up! This is another one of those pre-World War II cast iron Cap Guns. As you already know, Cap Guns didn't get really fancy until after the war when our matinee idols lit up the screen on TV and the die-cast guns came along.

Many thanks to Brian Oborski
