Kilgore Bronco -
1st Model - circa 1950

This model is sort of a cross
between a 38 police special and a western gun of some sort.
Kilgore made
this in around 1950 (which was the year the Nichols Stallion 45 came
out).
This gun is die-cast in nickel and has white grips with a saddle
and boots. |

Here is a different version of the Bronco box. My guess is that
for Kilgore to come out with more than one box variation, the Cap Gun must have
been pretty popular. I might be tempted to say that this is an earlier box, for
the one above looks more like an Eagle box or a Long Tom with those diagonal
stripes on the corners. Or the other way around—I don't know, you tell
me!

Now if you had the opportunity
to use some really fine photos of the second model of the Kilgore Bronco Cap
Gun, wouldn't you take it?
I thought so.
WELL SO WOULD I.
This is the
second version from Kilgore of the gun by the same name, but was from 1950 to
1955 or so.
Though it is not quite as rare as the first model, this
particular one is still quite a find as it is MINT AND UNFIRED.
The way you tell
the first one from the 2nd version is that the 2nd version has a rounded part
where the grip touches the frame under the hammer. That is simplifying it a
tad, but you get the idea. |

Well, if this
isn't unusual enough, then I give up! This is another one of those pre-World
War II cast iron Cap Guns. As you already know, Cap Guns didn't get really
fancy until after the war when our matinee idols lit up the screen on TV and
the die-cast guns came along.

Here is another one of those
cast-iron Cap Guns from the 1930's. Cindy says that it says, "PREMIER SAFETY"
on the grip of the Cap Gun, but you can just barely read it in this fine photo.
Notice how this photo is sharp and in focus folks!

Here's a rather obscure gun. A
cap gun/rubber band gun! This one shoots either a single shot cap or a rubber
band, due to its unusual anvil area and the indented end of the long
barrel.

1935 Cast-Iron
Kilgore Border Patrol

 |
|
|
1935 cast iron Kilgore cap gun
called a "Border Patrol." This is 4-1/2 inch long cast-iron automatic double
action detective-style pistol with a nickel finish. It has flip-back checkered
grips for loading purposes. According to The Charles W. Best book on cast-iron
toy pistols there were four different variations of this model & this is
the model designated as B23.1 on page 32 that says it was made with an "odd
protrusion" on the rear of the right hand grip (pictured in photo #3)

Here's another offering from Kilgore, but you
don't see this Cap Gun very often. It isn't worth a lot—unless you are a
serious Kilgore collector, which of course, you all ought to be. As soon as I
can lay my hands on a Roy Roger Long Tom, then I'm going to start my Kilgore
collection in earnest. Right after I get my new Steinway Grand Piano.

Here is a
really nice set that appears to be new old stock. Everything appears to be
unused. It is a girl's cowgirl outfit from Kilgore and is designed for fast
draw. Against those dratted cowboys I guess.
